About
The Student Film Showcase, a presentation of the Toronto International Film Festival Group (TIFFG) with the participation of the Film School Consortium, is an annual event showcasing the finest student films from universities and colleges across the country. Established in 2004, the Showcase has presented a diverse and exciting range of student work including animation, documentary, fiction and experimental films that represent the burgeoning talent of Canada's future generation of filmmakers.
Each year, the programme of student films is chosen by TIFFG programmers. A jury comprised of film industry professionals selects the award-winning works.
Films included in past Showcases have gone on to success, screening in other forums including the Toronto International Film Festival®, Sprockets Toronto International Film Festival for Children and other festivals around the world. The Student Film Showcase fosters opportunities for student filmmakers from Film School Consortium schools to not only exhibit their work, but also make important contacts and develop career-enhancing relationships with peers and industry professionals.
Since its first year with a membership of eight Ontario schools, the Film School Consortium has steadily grown and now boasts sixteen member film schools across the country.
The current member schools from which the Student Film Showcase programme is curated are:
Capilano College, Concordia University, Confederation College, Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design, Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, Langara College, NSCAD University, Ontario College of Art & Design, Queen's University, Ryerson University, Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, Simon Fraser University, University of British Columbia, University of Regina, University of Toronto, and York University.
